The former residence of a late TV star in California was sold for $8.55 million last year. What does a house with such high value look like? Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing in NBC’s sitcom Friends, was found dead in his residence on October 28, 2023. The LA County Medical Examiner revealed that the death was caused by “acute effects of ketamine.” Days before the first anniversary of his passing, the property made headlines again when The New York Times reported that Matthew Perry’s Palisades house had found a new owner.

Exterior

The backyard is grassy and level, despite being situated at the top of a steep hill. While it doesn’t have an in-ground pool, there’s a wood-sided jet spa perching on the edge of the cliff. According to the Daily Mail, the spa remains in place after the renovation, but it has undergone extensive upgrades to become a sleek infinity pool constructed from concrete. An expansive lawn separates the pool from huge sliding glass doors at the back of the main building. Because the house stands on high ground, it features an almost unobstructed view of the ocean. Aerial photographs show two separate seating areas–attached and detached–overlooking the lawn and the pool.

Interior

Based on the information from the Architectural Digest (AD) Middle East, the mid-century home features an open floor plan with four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms. There’s a silver fireplace that runs from floor to ceiling in the primary space, which consists of a kitchen, a living room, and a dining room. A minimalistic white/gray cabinetry and a built-in wine wall are placed in the kitchen, alongside yet another dining area. A picture window leads to the primary bathroom, outfitted with a soaking tub and a floating double vanity. Previous photos of the property listing also reveal a spacious walk-in closet.

Perry often shared photos from inside the house, offering a glimpse into the interior decoration, the Daily Mail said. Some of those photos revealed a big snooker table positioned in front of the grade, a velvet sofa, and a home movie theater with a projector screen and two plasma TVs.

Honoring the Legacy

The house where Mathew Perry was found dead in October 2023 is relatively modest for a star of his caliber, and understated compared to the other properties he bought in earlier years. Anita Verma-Lallian, the real estate developer who bought the house in 2024 off-market, said that she made the decision to acquire the property not because Matthew Perry lived in it, and planned to keep some of the original designs intact. It remains unclear which features will remain, but Verma-Lallian wants to keep the Batman logo in the pool unchanged.
